Played 3 Games and Read the Rulebook Cover to Cover

This weekend I played 3 games of 40K 6th edition and read the entire rulebook cover to cover, making notes as I went.

There is so much to cover for Space Wolves, it's pretty crazy. I have 4 articles to write about Space Wolves in 6th edition and all of them are going to be MASSIVE!

So while I could have just jumped right in with a whole load of speculation like all the other blogs, instead I spent my whole Saturday playing games for over 12 hours straight.

Then I had to read the rulebook cover to cover (again) Sunday morning, then spend my afternoon talking to James, Marc and Ian about it, go back and check the rules with a fine tooth comb and note down all the important stuff.

So get ready for some real insights into the new edition and how it really affects the Space Wolves, starting this Wednesday.

I'll be covering absolutely everything, including the new Rhino rush tactics, how to abuse wound allocation, why precision shots rock and why flyers might not be so bad after all...

And sorry, but Long Fangs do not get Flakk Missiles! It clearly states that this is an upgrade, which they (presently) do not have access too.

But it's not the end of the world...because you can still Snap Shoot when your Long Fangs have gone to ground. But more on cool Space Wolves tactics like that very soon!

I hope you tested different builds for your army and not just the same standard 5th edition build 4 times

other than that im excited to hear your intel and prognosis

A few things to remember, in one mission our long fangs are scoring! Additionally, thanks to the Grey Knight FAQ, Paladin and GK termies weapons are AP3, great news for a wolf lord in ruinic armor :-) Plasma on grey hunters will be interesting going forward as well being +1 on pen chart. Very excited to see more of whats to come.

plasma could be the new black, since terminators are best shot than taken in CC for space wolves, and by putting a wolf priest in the unit we get to reroll gets hot, thats just fantastic.

In the appendix 2 it is clear that missile launcher have 3 types of shoot, so if my long fangs have missile launchers is stated that i have access to the flakk missile.

Serenet, I dont have my rulebook yet so i cant check, but if true, that is huge, will someone here verify pls

Not true. Page 57: all missile launchers have Frag and Krak, some can upgrade to flak. We can't upgrade, so we don't get them. The only option for Sw to take on fliers reliably is allies or a fortification with quad gun.

James is correct! The weapon summary is very clear on this.

It states in the faq that it would mention if there should be any differences to the stats used in the main rules. It mentions no exceptions, so missile launchers get flakk - though cyclones and typhoons dont), my 2 cents

OK, here's a goofy question then: who CAN upgrade their missile launchers to incl. flakk? I'm not seeing it in any of the Marine FAQs, and as Serenet notes, the FAQ itself says follow the BRB.

" how to abuse wound allocation"

Fantastic to see people are already trying to brake 6th and its only 48hrs old.

Can unique characters challenge in combat i.e. Lukas the Trickster?

Looking forward to your post on this. I agree with Mathias: Wolf Priest with combi-plasma wolfguard (termies armour or not, your call), 2x plasmaguns, 1x plasma pistol is very very good. You already save yourself the points of the Wolf Standard, might as well buy that plasma pistol. The Rhino is only for LOS blocking really.

Wolf Priest build is good..put him in a Landraider with Wolf Guard Termies and the Saga of the Hunter and you have a very nasty unit. I've played a few games already at 2K and a lot of things that used to be sub-standard are working great now. Vindicators are very strong, put a Storm-bolter on them and there is little chance you'll lose the main gun. Lone Wolves are also an extremely useful unit now with the new challenge rules. Even my Predator Annihilators were great. Unlike before, I no longer feel that I need to run Long Fangs to be in the game and win. There are no standard 'Space Wolves' tactics anymore..many possibilities, way too many to have figured out in 5 days, but I'll read your stuff anyway.

@ dewi sant

yes both Lucas and Arjac can, I will play a few games the up comming weeks with lucas just because i have made a nice conversion (since way before) and really hopes he will be awsome in hunting the tuffest lord on the field and duell him out

im gonna put him with 14 other footslogging Blood claws (with 2 plasmaguns) 1 wolf priest in runic armour (and if i have the points a terminator of some sort, not shure yet)

Also, don't forget about the most awesome combination of power from Double Rune Priest: Telekinesis Assail (Primaris Power) reduces all enemies with 18" Initiative by half. Then the other Rune Priest come in and Jaws. Bye bye Mephiston, you are Initive 4, MC, PF, Paladins are all Initiative 2.

Now, if there is a way to protect them against Perils.

Telekinesis Assail (Primaris) reduces Initiative of everyone within 18" by half. You can then jaws Mephiston, MC, PF, Paladins with ease.

Nice try but Strike down effects a model and not a unit. MC are also immune to the effect of strike down. Still, its a good combo for hunting the likes of Mephiston though.

I think that saga of the hunter gives your hq the abillity to outflank and stated in 6th rulebook, if one modell in the unit have outflank then the unit can outflank

Can someone find something saying otherwise?

@Mathias: HQ or Independent Character special rules can't be conferred to the unit he is with, in the BRB page 39 under Special Rules. So I guess no, unless he's attached with Wolf Scouts.

cron warriors are great in this edition...
auto glancing on 6's means loads of hull points will go...

my deathwing are now very happy as my freinds BT and SW all have powerswords :)

Yep you're right, good find.

As stated in our codex its only Infantry. So Blood Claws, Sky Claws, Grey Hunters, Long Fangs, Scouts and a hand full of IC's. No out flanking Swift Claws, TWC or Fen Wolves.
Also get a re-roll to see where you come on due to AS.

at Faizal

look at page 40, im certain now that im right

"any unit that contains at least one model with this special rule is attempting to outflank the enemy"

you dont confer the ability, but simply because he has it, all has it

fuuuuuu*** awsome :P

Yeah one of my friends already thought up taking imhotek and necron warriors with his tau. Not sure why he wants more anti tank since he's freaking tau. He does like having the storm lord with his guaranteed night fight and his bonus to seize the initiative plus his cool lightning bit...

@Faizal: Some rules from ICs do transfer. Specifically the ones that say "as long as one model". So taking an IC with saga of the hunter will allow a unit to outflank (and benefit from stealth) if he starts attached. There are a lot of good combos for that, but I'm not sure about skyclaws. They are unit type jump infantry, so I don't think it would work with them.

pg 110 at 2k or more (bigger games).allows you to double your FOC so.... thats potential for lets say 8 Hqs and oh uh 6 full squads of long fangs.. 30 missiles a turn @ 840 points will make a bad day for Anyone
