Word round the campfire is that Necrons are due to arrive imminently. This is all in keeping with Games Workshop's new SURPRISE! marketing strategy that's designed to make us all splash a huge wadge of cash on preordered goods.Fair play to them, because it's a very 'measurable' strategy. It's easy to see the cause, effect and record all the data. Previously their long term leaked releases may have got people building armies early. But due to having to track that marketing data over a long period, I guess it didn't paint a very clear picture for them.
So what does a new Necron Codex mean for Space Wolves players? More things to kill of course...and typically of the 3+ armour save variety. 40K 5th edition really is the 3+ edition isn't it?
In my last (and only!) game against the Necrons with Space Wolves, I found them to be very tough to deal with due to 2 Monoliths, the Nightbringer and a Lord leading Immortals that simply wouldn't die.
Although making the Nightbringer fall down a hole with Jaws Of The World Wolf was without a doubt the most satisfying moment in my Space Wolves career!
Like the Dark Eldar, Necrons will be back, with lots of funky rules and more units than ever before. But so long as they streamline We'll Be Back into something a bit more sensible I'll be cool with that.
Now you're probably wondering if this Codex will continue the trend of Codex Creep and dump all over Grey Knights...and pretty much everyone else. Or if we'll get something a bit more balanced.
Keep your power weapons ready. Only time will tell...

They look ... hideous!! Swords and shields ... their vehicles look terrible. I'm very happy I sold off my Necrons this past summer.

It's all ok. It's a xeros race, it won't be any good, thats typical, GW strats. :P
(Looks at Dark Eldar) They were the exceptions!
All seriousness though, since Matt Ward is writing it, it will be a good codex. Which is a releif, as while the fluff is silly, his rules are spot on. (Blood Angels are quite balienced and Grey Knights are an elite army which can be dealt with.
Phil Kelly Wrote space wolves and Dark Eldar and they both are really good.
Look at the sisters of battle and insects in space (both, quite weak armies, the former being out of place in a mech meta and the latter being bad marines with much of the flavour lost), and thank the heavens Necrons recieved Ward. :P The fluff can be replaced by the member, but a bad rule book can't be repaired without a new codex.
Since the Necrons have got the rough end of the 2nd edition stick for almost as long, I think their time to be broken has come.

my wolves might want to swipe some of those nice axes and shields for themselves :) i agree that the necrons needed a new codex ages ago but yeah um mat ward, let's just say i expect the new necrons to be as balanced as a rugby game reffed by bryce lawrence
