Warmachine is making a come back in a big way lately, even though the new rules have been out for quite a while.I used to play Khador during 1st edition some 10 years ago. But now that Warmachine the warmachine range is becoming increasingly plastic and the rules have been revised, James and Marc are interested in picking it up again -and who am I to argue?
Sometimes you need a break from 40K and Warmachine could be a good alternative, especially now things are a little more balanced... Well, more balanced that when Escalation came out and turned the game into an infantry based blood bath.
I'll freely admit that I didn't really 'get' Warmachine. It felt like playing 2nd edition 40K and Magic The Gathering at the same time. So I got rid of Sorscha as my Warcaster from out of the boxed set and took THE BUTCHER instead. Suddenly my army became a lot simpler and the game more enjoyable...until the Escalation book ruined everything for me.
Come to think of it, it was Cryx that ruined everything for me with their Machine Wraiths and Pistol Wraiths.
But anyway, we're back into Warmachine. James has picked up the Cryx battlegroup, as he still has most of this stuff from when we last played. Meanwhile Marc has picked up the Cygnar battlegroup having lot faith in Menoth from the first time we played. I think he just got sick of every unit being 'knights' of some description. Finally, that leaves me with the Khador battlegroup which I'll either paint in traditional Russian military colours or just bright red.
We'll play with the boxed sets to start, then build up from there. But rest assured that THE BUTCHER will be back to bring carnage, mayhem and maniacal laughter to my games. I mean, who needs magic when you've got an enormous axe?
I plan to follow the recommended army lists from the Khador Kommunity on the Privateer Press site and create a simple, effective army. So stay tuned for some Warmachine to mix things up over the coming months.
In the meantime we're looking into other games as well. James is keen on Malifaux, but I'm still not sold. It just looks too damn random! Instead I'm considering buying Super Dungeon Explore for some monster slaying fun!

I love this blog, so please keep on the Sons of Russ and other 40K related topics. When BoLS started doing War Machines it was a let down. I don't mean to be a jerk, I really enjoy this blog, I check it everyday and re-read articles all the time. But if I wanted to read about war Machines I would check out there blogs.

I ditto the above...

I just started looking at Warmachine as well, but what I want to know is when will we be getting more Wolf and Sister?
October 3, 2011 at 3:03 PM
Guys, this is the Space Wolves Blog. It will always be about Space Wolves -period!
There might be a little bit of Warmachine once in a while, but I know my audience and I know what the focus should be. And that's hairy heroes drinking and slaughtering their way to glory! :)

This is obviously the perfect time to create a Warmachine blog. ;)

Can we stick to Wolves please, and drop the cartoons? I always forgot about W & S on Wednesdays and felt cheated that there was no modelling/tactics articles that day.
October 3, 2011 at 4:18 PM
Sorry dude, the huge spike in visitor traffic on a Wednesday disagrees with you.

I'm enjoying the comic. Nacho (artist) is doing a great job. I think everyone should check out his artworks over at Deviant Art too. He has posted some extra W&S comic drawings there.
I'm also enjoying reading this blog. I'm a new reader, but I've been reading lots of old posts and keeping up with the newer ones.
A handful of posts about non-SW topics of interest is fine. As far as other mini games goes, I saw Paolo Parent's Dust (dustgame.com) at a convention this year and it look pretty nice too.

I always thought the Kahrn models for Circle Orobos (yes I know it's Hordes) were gorgeous! However I was turned off by the poor quality of the metal. Plus I thought the rules were a let down after all the hype I heard. Might still grab a couple just to paint though.
But i'd also like to say keep it wolves please. That's what i'm here for.

Id like to echo what the others have said. I have no interest in warmachine- and although im glad you do- have no desire to click a link to my favorite site and see an article not about wolves, but about a game i dont care for.

I have started a Retribution force :D
The Myrmidons look like the Invod from Battletech, an '80s cartoon. Delicious ;)
I had to track down Colonel Festus for how he painted his RoS white, and then also Spiky James [who painted the White Scars in C:SM] for his white, as white belongs in the terrible trio of colours, alongside red and yellow.
I have started a blog, though won't be playing until December:

From one space wolf to another, if you are interested in another game range then I heartily recomend Malifaux.
It's the most enjoyable skirmish game I've played since Mordheim, and has the nice twist of using a deck of cards rather than dice.
The game also has a lot of character (the very reason I was drawn to space wolves at a young age) and there are plenty of different gangs to choose from with a great variety of models and playstyles.

Just wanted to say I love the blog. Always glad to see your comments and thoughts on various games!

Blood Bowl online is certainly a grand game. Just try not to get attached to your guys even though you pour effort into them like a father....
*tries to hide tears welling in his eyes*

I don't mind a little WM talk, it's got a lot going for it. Awesome models, very clear and balanced rules playtested by the community in open beta. A company that seems to be actively looking at the mistakes GW makes and specifically adressing those in it's own customer base. Very involved games designers that post on their own message board. Did I mention very clearly written rules? I should also probably mention the very clearly written rules. Virtually every rules argument I've ever come across in WM has been solved by opening the rulebook. Warhammer causes MORE arguments the more you open the books it seems.
While It is hands down a better game than 40k ruleswise, I'm just not nearly as fond of the setting. I LOVE Sci-Fi, I like traditional fantasy a lot. Steampunk? Not all that much. I also think it's gotten too big, too many units with too many special abilities. I don't like "hard counters" in card games, I REALLY don't like it in miniature games.
@Marshall Wilhelm: I think you mean "Invid from Robotech", battletech is a miniatures game (that also spawned video games and a cartoon, but it was in the 90's and did not have invid)

convert the warmachines into pre heresy dreadnoughts :P

Elladrion:
Yes, I probably do mean Robotech :P I get them confused :D

Aaaaand the Warmachine haters come out of the woodwork.
October 5, 2011 at 4:40 AM
warma-hordes is a great game, but im not about to give up playing 40k (well until the release 6th ed and it ruins all my armies and i have to buy shed loads of new models)
October 5, 2011 at 1:03 PM
I think 40k figs look better.
Space Wolves Rock!
October 5, 2011 at 6:56 PM
Space Wolves,Wolf and Sister, now Khador. I love this blog! keep up the good work man!
October 7, 2011 at 8:20 AM
Love the blog lads. Wolf and sister is awesome mate keep it comin along with your awesome posts. War machine is getting more popular in Aus as now we can't order from maelstrom it's just obscenely expensive to buy 40k models. I'm just happy I could throw down a cheeky few hundred before the embargo and stock up!

I find it that Hordes Circle Orboros compliment my Space Wolves army really well :)
I also find it refreshing to have a couple of armies to work on. If I work on one single army (or gaming system) for too long I just get burned out and leave it all together for a while. This way i can work a bit on Space Wolves, then switch to Hordes Circle Orboros, then work a bit on my WHFB Skaven, rinse and repeat :)
But if you guys already mentioned Mallifaux, the main reason to play it is the Jackalope! I mean, any game system that has a Jackalope model deserves to be played :)
