The Land Raider Proteus costs £80. It looks amazing, but come on eighty quid!!The worst part is that I want it. Oh how I want a Land Raider Proteus in my Pre Heresy Space Wolves army.
The mind says YES, but the wallet says NO!
Then the gamer in me says "But where will my models disembark from?" Because the side hatches aren't good and with no front hatch, game play is going to be difficult.
My other concern is that this is 100% resin. And we all know how good Forge World are when it comes to making resin kits that do together properly. In other words, it's one of the things they really suck at.
I'm just going to look at it some more...wantingly...longingly...
So what do you guys think?

Thankfully I've never liked the old-style Land Raider (probably because I only got into the hobby in 2005), so the Proteus does nothing for me.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with Student Teacher. While it's nice to see some retro stuff come out from time to time, I REALLY prefer the look of the new Land Raider to the old ones. The Achilles is not only cooler gameplay wise but also a fantastic looking model, so I'd get that instead (A Thunderfire Cannon, combined with Power of the Machine Spirit. It screams POWER!)

For some reason I've always felt the Land Raider looks like it's driving backwards, probably because of experience with Great War tanks where the tracks are highest at the front.
That said, I'd love to see one of these paired with converted Rhinos sporting Leman Russ tracks! A fantastic retro-school-looking armoured cavalry group.

I love that thing and will have to have one for my wolves. My brother back in the day made me a Mark II LR out of bits and card. If you look at it you cannot tell it is scratch built. One of these will allow me to field all three variants and I just think that is cool.
I am addict what can I say.

Your mind says "Yes!" Your Wallet says "No!" and your mind returns with "Ebay!" Where they are selling for 21 quid!

i don't like the model and the fact that it's made of resin... too much bucks for a model that i can't even use in tournies

I absolutely love these things, I didn't know they were out on release again! I'm more than a little tempted, they look awesome to me!
Course, I had a fleet of these back with first ed. Epic, and felt a little sad when the new ones came out. To me, this is the Godhammer land raider, the newer one is just some fancy-pants variation vehicle.
I think the front ramp still comes down, and might lay over the spikey ram thing. Not sure if the kit will allow it to do that or not.
So yeah, go for it! But I'm bias :)

I am 50/50 on this one. I love that it's being produced, and sad about the price. The best thing about Forge World is that it doesn't flood the market with kits and loose money so badly that the kits have to be dropped. I would love to build a preheresy wolves army from all forge world models one day. and I agree the game play might be off on this one but with 6th on the way? maybe this will work better that we know now. all that plus the age of the "retro" market should make it a bread winner. lol

Not a fan. I had a couple of these back in the day. Cool at the time, but the new model is better. That being said, the fact that you're putting together a pre-Heresey Wolf army makes this a tougher choice because they would fit right in.
All things considered. I would still go with the standard model. Alternatively, you could look for some Mk IIs on ebay and convert them.

At first glance I thought it was something you converted, then I read the comment.
Whats not to like about 'old school'?
I have three of the old Raiders, I wonder if there will be a new rule set for them?
I have one set aside for a conversion and I just purchased some Leman Russ sprues @$1.00. So I wonder how hard it will be to convert an original to a Proteus?

Have you thought abot using downloadable patterns and construct it with cardboard?

I feel like I'm shouting into a internet powered hurricane by beating this drum but hey ho. Just because it's an old design from Rogue Trader/2nd ed doesn't mean it's any more pre heresy than the current raider! That old card game has lots to answer for.
Anyways its 80 squid cos it's resin. It's cool though but I've got the original plastic version still on its sprue along with tonnes of RTB01s...

Love the model but $125 is seriously ridiculous!

This model is ghastly. I personally have never liked any of the tank models for GW. I find that the style of World war I British tanks to be seriously behind the times. An M1 Abrams looks way more futuristic and effective than these tanks. I mean come on, didn't engineers in the 40th millennium know anything about ballistics and aerodynamics? Wouldn't you want your tanks to have curving and smooth surfaces to refract small arms fire and missiles? I understand that its heresy to redesign land raiders in the 40K universe, but it wasn't always heresy. why would they keep these stupid looking boxes.
