The 40K Masters results are in and Alex managed to claw his way to 5th place with his Imperial Guard, but only encountered a single Space Wolves army along the way. We'll have a chat with Alex later in the week about his game with Luke Nurser's Space Wolves which he crushed with relative ease if the 16-4 score is anything to go by.
Although having seen the two Space Wolves lists attending the tournament, the extreme min/max nature was something worryingly reminiscent of 4th edition. That said, it's the player, not the list which makes a good army, so for now we can only speculate.
Anyway, here are the final rankings from the two day tournament.
1st Josh Roberts (Imperial Guard)
2nd Neil Kerr (Chaos Daemons)
3rd Stu Robertson (Dark Eldar)
4th Peter Cooke (Blood Angels)
5th Alex Harrison (Imperial Guard)
6th Rob Buckley (Chaos Space Marines)
7th Filippo Cipriani (Tyranids)
8th Luke Nurser (Space Wolves)
9th Chris Green (Tyranids)
10th James Taylor (Chaos Space Marines)
11th Kiran Reddy (Eldar)
12th Richard Fielder (Space Wolves)
13th Gaz Jones (Dark Eldar)
14th James Ramsay (Imperial Guard)
In the meantime, I'm undertaking the Killswitch Challenge with sights set on the first UK 40K GT at the end of March.

Lukes army is pretty much what I took to the etc last year... Its awesome - to a point. That point is armies with mid strength shooting (Blood angels Asscannon spam) Poison (Stu' DE has lots of poison + high I + lots of attacks) + guard - who are pretty much designed to kill the wolves on the way in before the CC goodness we all loves becomes effective.
Maybe MSU wolves is the way to go but that tends to just turn into a shooting match vs these armies and is not the way that russ intended! Plus other armies just do shooting better. That combined with our relatively high points for a termie with TH/SS or equive means we tend to turn to the TWC in spades - where the 3+ save makes them susceptible to certain builds - That and they cost a bomb - You cant have your cake and eat it sadly - thats why Wolves have not really won as many events as you would have thought. We are the nearly men.
Alex did well - he pulled back from the abyss to his top 5 finish - good job mate. Im sure he would have done even better if he had not become a turncoat! His lists are always slightly more 'managed' for the top table opponents and im sure he would have got at least 4th ;-)

nice to see CSM/eldar in at 6th and 11th place considering that their codex is out of date.

Well done all - especially the Demon player!
I had a friend at the open part of the masters and he said there was a overall lack of cover of all kinds on the the tables :(

I was the Daemon player who came second. So cheers guys!
In brief my games were:
1. Pete: Blood Angels (4th) = Draw
2. James: Dual Lash (10th) = Draw
3. Kiran: Eldar (11th) = Win
4. Fillippo: Nids (7th) = Win
5. Josh: Guard (1st) = Draw
6. Alex Harrison(!): Guard (5th) = Win
Was a great weekend with no real issues or disputes. Cheers once again to my opponents.
As for the terrain, there was 25% or more on each board. But what we had did was in some cases load more very big LOS blocking terrain onto some boards than others to make things a little more interesting.

Oh and I forgot to say: Who ever said Daemons can't cut it ;-) I think this shows they are still a serious army in the right hands.

Thanks for the clarification on the cover Neil, I was almost tempted to use my IG for your Indie GT in March... but Wolves it is!
Also any army is deadly in the right hands, the player makes the army not the list IMO.
