Adams Great Big Space Wolves Shopping List

Planning a Space Wolves army tends to go in stages. First you think of your 1,500 points Space Wolves list (or 1750 if you're in the US) and take it from there, building your army, then gradually adding to it and refining its composition with new units.

This then leads to higher point battles, campaigns, themed lists and maybe even a game of Apocalypse after many years of collecting, painting and playing.

Now I'm a little bit envious of my friend James's 6000 points Dark Angels army. He's been building it solidly for the past two years and it's beautiful to behold.

Last year we played an Apocalypse battle between his Dark Angels and the combined forces of Luke's, Simon's and my Tau. The game may have only been 4,500 points per side, but his army looked stunning and worked together as a single cohesive force. And I thought to myself "I'd like one of those".

So like James and his Dark Angels, the plan with my Space Wolves is to eventually have EVERYTHING!

But, the one rule my gaming group has firmly laid down is: No super heavies and No fliers. We're competitive enough and we really don't need our weekly games of Warhammer 40K escalating any further.

So here's a brief list of everything I have so far and everything I still need to acquire.

Have
Njal Stormcaller
Lukas the Trickster
Arjack Rockfist (conversion)
1 Lone Wolf in terminator armour
5 Wolfguard terminators with combi weapons
1 Wolfguard terminator with assault cannon and power weapon
15 Blood Claws + Wolfguard in terminator armour
9 Grey Hunters + Wolfguard + Rhino/Razorback APC

5 Wolf Scouts
5 Swiftclaw Bikers + Attack Bike + Wolfguard
1 Landspeeder Tornado
6 Long Fangs (missiles) + Wolfguard in terminator armour + Razorback
6 Long Fangs (missiles)
6 Long Fangs (missiles)

Need
3 Rhino/Razorback APC for Grey Hunters
1 Wolfguard terminator with assault cannon and power fist
2 Wolfguard in terminator armour for Long Fangs
2 Razorback for Long Fangs
2 Landspeeder Tornado
3 Landspeeder Tornado (multimelta/heavy flamer)
3 Landspeeder Typhoon
5 Swiftclaw Bikers + Attack Bike + Wolfguard
2 Rune Priests on Bikes
2-4 Rune Priests on foot?
6 Long Fangs (multimeltas) + Logan Grimnar + Drop Pod
2 Space Wolves Dreadnoughts (Forgeworld)
Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf (with magnetised weapon arms)
5 Thunderwolf cavalry
Iron Priest on Thunderwolf + 4 Cyberwolves
2 Fenrisian Wolves for Lone Wolf
5 boxes of Fenrisian Wolves (Goblin Wolf Riders)
10 Skyclaws + Wolf Priest with jump pack
2 Predator Destructors
2 Predator Annihilators
3 Vindicators
2 Land Raiders
2 Land Raider Redeemers
2 Land Raider Crusaders
1 Whirlwind

As you can see I've got quite a way to go, but I feel that it's a good idea to know where you're going.

Currently I'm building the core of my army, which is infantry in transports. So to complete this, I need to paint the infantry that I have, then buy them all transports before moving on to the next chunk of the army, which will be Swiftclaw Bikers, Biker Rune Priests and Landspeeders.

I'm trying to put off Thunderwolves for as long as possible in the vain hope that Games Workshop or Forgeworld release some proper miniatures. Otherwise I'll be hacking up Canis Wolfborn (which I'd rather not do) or convert one of the Chaos Juggernaughts into something more wolf-like using lots of Green Stuff and Space Wolves accessories.

Of course, an official Thunderwolf kit would likely inspire me to have 3 Thunderwolf units, more Iron Priests on Thunderwolves and probably more Wolf Lords on Thunderwolves as well. If ever there was a model kit that needs to be made, it's this one.

Wow, this is a lot of models. I should look for a suitable carry case!

I'm building a 1500p army. And i have a similar approach.

First i'm building the core units (Grey Hunters(3x9), Long Fangs(2x6) and Wolf Guard(8). Next wave will be transports and Landspeeders. Then i'm at 1500p.

Maybe i get some landraiders or Blood Claws. I don't know. First Task: Complete first wave :P.
