Three Space Wolf Lists

Here are three 1850 point lists I am toying with. The new Codex is so full of great options I’m finding it hard to make lists. It’s especially hard because they brought back two of my favorite special characters from 2nd edition, and they're back with a vengeance.

The first two lists feature lists are built around them, and the third list is a generic Wolf list.

1st Wolf list

2 PA WG, 1combi-melta, 1 combi-plasma, 2 Power weapons
Drop pod
288

Troops 555

5 Grey Hunters
1 plasma gun, 1 Power fist
Razorback TLLC
185

9 Grey Hunters

145

6 Long Fangs
2 HB, 2 ML, 1 LC
145

LR
Extra armor
265

Total points 1843

Njal goes in the Drop pod with the WG Terminators. They deploy where they are needed in the first turn most likely near mid field or on a flank. The two PA WG go to each of the Grey hunter packs. The Wolf Priest goes with the Blood Claws in the Landraider.

2nd Wolf list

Big Jim

drop pod long fangs with plasma cannon is what im going for; but your list is what ive imagine when i read through the dex the first time. 4 troop choice is going to be prominent for every wolf army personaly im going for Logan Grimmar army with a ton of wolfguard idc if there not effective but i also wont a more than a few BC biker squad.

You do realise that 5 long fangs with 4 missile launchers is just 125 points?

Now that's a bargain!

You could have 3 of those for 375 points.

Yeah Adam, I know and I will probably model one of my three Long Fang packs that way.

I already have one Pack converted and built with the loadout that I used in the lists.

Any other thoughts on the lists?

Going heavy and adding 3 Landraiders, the latest Forgeworld update changes the specs on teh Prometheus so will end up with one of those and a redeemer as transports with a helios, predator and either a second predator/helios or a longfang pack in a lascannon equipped razorback. Making an Ironnwolf company so everything where possible will be mechanised, including Iron Priest on a bike with cyber wolves :) HQ will be Egil, runepriest, Damocles Rhino for the orbital bombardment and either Bjorn or a wolf priest.

Just took hold of one of the new figures, local GW manager is a friend and he's decided that rather than try and create a shop army from scratch with the new display sprues for the equivalent of $4 you can take enough pieces to build a space wolf at home, paint it and bring it back in for launch day - best painted Wolf wins the new codex. But more to th epoint the designs on the armour do lend each piece to different roles, think I will be mixing and matching with the previous stuff to get the best effects, even the shoulder pads have different squad markings on.

I find it interesting that all three lists has long fangs. Wish that devestator teams could be priced that way too. Gives one a heavy weapons option that isn't a tank or similar:)

speaking of fast, can I use a land speeder storm in a Space Wolf army? Wish that I could, but then again they can't deliver scoring units for the wolves:/

I like the lists. Built with a passion and seems to be both fun, diverese, and fluffy. I am eagerly awaiting October 3rd so I myself can start reading the codex:)

And while we are at it, what is your thoughts on all drop pod armies and ragnar armies and the like?

Yes you can use landspeeders - i use the forgeworld tempests - 120 pts each but twin linked missiles and an assault cannon :)

drop pods 50/50 you don't know when half are going to arrive and you stand a chance of losing them - but get it right and 3 dreads behind someones tanks and infantry :)

Great to see long fangs back in action with the new changes. My long fangs can finally get onto the gaming board after so many years off (remember those metal fangs with dynamic poses?).

up until yesterday i was worked for GW (bad time to leave when space wolves are coming out eh??) and i have been playtesting quite a lot of of wolf lists. so far the most successul one was based around thunderwolf cavalry and fenrisisan wolves.

tho we were playing at 1500, not 1850
